Employers Network for Equality and Inclusion (enei) announces new trustees

In November 2020, the organisation welcomed a new Chair and Chief Executive and later appointments of two new Directors to the executive leadership team. enei CEO Sandi Wassmer commented, “We are all delighted to welcome these five talented trustees at a pivotal time for enei. They are all strategic leaders, established in their fields, with the ability to provide insight and act as ambassadors for our organisation. With them onboard, enei’s future continues to get brighter.”

enei welcomes five new trustees to its Board as the charity continues to embark on its ambitious growth phase, upholding its focus on creating UK workplaces that are truly inclusive.

enei currently works with 400+ UK employer members across public, private, and third sector organisations and has a rapidly growing base of training and consultancy clients to inspire, guide, and offer support throughout each of their inclusion journeys.

The new trustees all have diverse skillsets bringing yet more expertise to the current Board. These skills include finance, marketing, PR and communications, business development, account management, and service development and delivery.

enei Chair, Darra Singh, added, “Recent social inequalities and social injustices have brought equality, diversity, and inclusion to the fore.

There is not only more interest in enei’s work but increased demand for creative and innovative solutions; we are thrilled about our new trustees who will support us in building our position as the UK market leader in workplace equality, diversity, and inclusion.”

enei is strengthening the skillsets and diversity of its Board by appointing the following five new trustees: Ian Adams is currently Director of Membership and Stakeholder Engagement at NHS Resolution and has combined a career in communications and marketing for the BBC, NHS, and government with 20 years’ service as a Local Authority Councillor and a charity trustee. Ian is Vice-Chair of Single Homeless Project and a Trustee of Unite Foundation and London Handel Festival. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, and a Leadership Fellow of St George’s House, Windsor. In 2017/18, he served as Lord Mayor of Westminster and was listed as an OUTstanding LGBT+ role model in 2018, 2019, and 2020. Ian is a registered mentor with the Civil Service LGBT+ Mentoring Scheme and holds two degrees, including an MBA awarded with Distinction from the University of Bradford.

Tom Berry is a Non-Executive Director for Mental Health First Aid England and a part-time business teacher at his local secondary school. Tom has been an advisor and marketing consultant for a range of UK and international organisations. Tom was the CEO and Chair of Chameleon, a specialist communications agency named B2B PR Agency of the Year and the Best Agency to Work For under his tenure. Before his career in marketing and PR, Tom worked for many years as a business journalist.

Richard Kramer is Chief Executive Officer at Sense and Vice-Chair of the Disabled Children’s Partnership; he was also Director at Turning Point for 10 years. Richard held several director-level positions across policy, campaigns, and business development. He led the department that developed the innovative Connected Care model, which involved members of local communities in designing and delivering health and social care services. A qualified solicitor, Richard has previously worked for Mencap and NCVO. Richard was a trustee of Respond for 10 years, a trustee of a Multi-Academy Trust for seven years, and a former board member of the Campaign to End Loneliness.

Shelley Portet is Managing Partner at The Brooklyn Brothers and is an award-winning marketing and communications leader with specialist expertise in earned and social. Shelley started her career as a journalist for CBSi before moving into the burgeoning field of social media. She has worked across some of the most globally recognisable brands throughout her career, including adidas, YouTube, Jaguar Land Rover, Red Bull, McDonald’s, and GoPro. Shelley strongly believes that people’s different lived experiences allow them to have a unique point of view on the world, and it’s this diversity of thought that organisations need if they’re to survive. Shelley has previously volunteered as a mentor for The Girls Network and now is partnering with the Carers Trust to provide training and support for young carers.

Will Smith is Managing Partner, People & Purpose for Deloitte North, and South Europe, with over 20 years of professional experience delivering independent financial audits and assurance services to major listed, private, and international businesses. He has experience across the manufacturing, consumer, retail, and technology industries. Will sits on the Business Executive Leadership Team with specific responsibility for strategic people initiatives across 28 countries and over 50,000 professionals. This includes diversity, equity, and inclusion; international mobility; employee value propositions; and learning and development. He is also Sponsoring Partner for Deloitte UK’s LGBTQ+ network, GLOBE, and has supported the network in developing several transformative initiatives, including the firm’s Allies Programme. Will is a passionate advocate for inclusion and, in 2020, was named Male Diversity Champion of the Year at the UK Women in Accountancy and Finance Awards.
