Acas urges employers to prepare for Rugby World Cup time off demands

Acas have launched new guidance to help employers prepare for time off demands and performance issues that could arise over the Rugby World Cup period.

Acas have launched new guidance to help employers prepare for time off demands and performance issues that could arise over the Rugby World Cup period. The 2015 Rugby World Cup will take place in the UK from Friday 18 September to Saturday 31 October. The issues for employers to consider include: (i) being fair and consistent when allowing time off, remembering not everyone is a sporting fan; (ii) monitoring high levels of sickness when matches occur or late attendance due to post match hangovers; (iii) being flexible about starting and finishing times; (iv) reminding employees about the organisation’s policy on the use of social media such as Facebook, Twitter, etc., ; and (v) being clear about the use of workplace computers or personal devices, e.g. smart phones, tablets, etc., to watch game coverage while at work.
