DfE consults on 30-hour free childcare entitlement

The Department for Education has started a consultation on how it should provide an extended entitlement of up to 30 hours free childcare for working parents of 3-and 4-year-olds.

The Department for Education has started a consultation on how it should provide an extended entitlement of up to 30 hours free childcare for working parents of 3-and 4-year-olds. The consultation relates to S.1 of the Childcare Act 2016 under which the Secretary of State must make childcare available free of charge for qualifying children of working parents for a period equivalent to 30 hours in each of 38 weeks in any year. The DfE is seeking views how the entitlement will be delivered and how it will meet and be responsive to the needs of working parents. The aim is to launch the new entitlement nationwide from September 2017.
