Britain’s bid to block a 40 per cent quota for female representation on the boards of Europe’s listed companies has been bolstered by eight other member states

Britain’s bid to block a 40 per cent quota for female representation on the boards of Europe’s listed companies has been bolstered by eight other member states, according to EU diplomatic documents. Nine countries have signed a letter sent to the European Commission’s president Jose Manuel Barroso and his deputy Viviane Reding, stating their opposition to the proposal. The correspondence agreed that there was an issue with gender equality at a senior corporate level, but stressed that regulations were already being dealt with nationally.
