Corporate manslaughter charge against second company

Following advice from the Crown Prosecution Service, a second company has been charged with corporate manslaughter following the death of an employee and three of the company’s directors have been charged with gross negligence manslaughter.

Following advice from the Crown Prosecution Service, a second company has been charged with corporate manslaughter following the death of an employee and three of the company’s directors have been charged with gross negligence manslaughter.

Earlier this year, Cotswold Geotechnical (Holdings) Ltd was found guilty of corporate manslaughter at Bristol Crown Court. Now, following the death of an employee, Steven Barry, who fell through a fragile roof panel, Lion Steel Ltd has been charged with corporate manslaughter under the Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide Act 2007, following advice from the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS). The CPS also advised that that three of the company’s directors should be charged with gross negligence manslaughter and that both the company and the three directors be charged under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 for failing to ensure the safety at work of employees.
