Born under a bad sign

Born under a bad sign

A celestial controversy has broken out in Austria after a company decided only to recruit workers born under certain star signs. The Salzburg Insurance Company posted an advert in major newspapers seeking employees for sales and management positions, but stating that only those born under certain signs of the Zodiac should apply.

The advertisement, which ran in all the major Austrian newspapers, read: “We are looking for people for part-time jobs in sales and management with the following star signs: Capricorn, Taurus, Aquarius, Aries and Leo.” The ad generated a huge number of protests from Austrian equality groups (mostly Scorpios and Gemini’s). However, an investigation by the country’s national anti-discrimination authority showed that there was nothing illegal in choosing potential employees according to their star signs, as there was no discrimination according to existing laws about gender, age, racial and other equality.

Despite the protests, the company is not changing its recruitment practices. A spokesperson explained that the move was based on statistical research and had nothing to do with superstition. She added: “A statistical study indicated that almost all of our best employees across Austria have one of the five star signs. We are determined to continue with that system to hire the best workers.”

This star struck approach reminds us here in Frith St Towers of the man arrested for hitting a fortune teller when she laughed as she passed on some bad news – he was charged with “Striking a happy Medium”.

Those wishing to adopt star signs as competencies will find that Star Sign Characteristics contains a host of useful information.
