Why are new recruits increasingly thinking of quitting?

Research from Thomas International reveals that nearly two-thirds (60%) of UK workers would leave their current employer within six months if they were unhappy in their role.

Research* reveals that nearly two-thirds (60%) of UK workers would leave their current employer within six months if they were unhappy in their role.

The research is another sign of the current ‘Great Resignation’ trend, which has seen almost one in four UK workers plan a job change. And as employers struggle to find skilled staff, with UK job vacancies at an all-time high, the risk of businesses losing valuable talent due to workplace dissatisfaction could seriously damage growth prospects. 

The research, which surveyed over ninety-eight thousand employees, also revealed 96% of UK workers would leave their employer within twelve months if they were unhappy at work. This is an eye-opening figure for businesses working to recover from the impacts of the pandemic.

Sabby Gill, CEO of Thomas commented on the findings, “The pandemic encouraged people to no longer tolerate a role that makes them unhappy. And while this is a revelation for employees and job seekers, it’s critical businesses recognise that a healthy work environment matters. Not only for engagement and productivity but also for overall business success.

“More needs to be done to manage workplace happiness. Understanding the diverse personality traits of the workforce, and measuring emotional intelligence, can help businesses boost morale and uncover the root of the problem. Only then can businesses empower employees and avoid losing talent.”
