Asked what they believed to be the three biggest HR issues facing Cumbria, 65 percent of respondents – representing some of Cumbria’s largest businesses – said that recruitment, or skills shortage was one of their main concerns.

Other issues raised included GDPR and problems linked to health and wellbeing.

The survey was carried out at a recent CIPD employment law update, sponsored by Baines Wilson and attended by 60 of Cumbria’s leading HR professionals.  Experts from Baines Wilson offered advice on many of the issues facing Cumbrian businesses today, including GDPR, discrimination, equality & diversity, legislation, and the gig economy.

Joanne Holborn, Partner and Head of Employment, commented  “There are many fantastic businesses operating across Cumbria that offer excellent career opportunities.  However, in today’s fast changing word, companies need to be increasingly innovative in their approach to recruitment. Equally important is letting people know that their career aspirations can be realised in Cumbria.”
