Public sector jobs on the up

Recruitment software provider, Recruitive, has reported a rise in the number of job vacancies advertised within the public sector in November.

According to the Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR), more than 100,000 public sector jobs are expected to be lost over the course of this parliament; with Birmingham City Council already announcing that 1,200 jobs are to be cut in 2016. Despite the cuts the number of public sector vacancies advertised in November, via Recruitive’s multi-job posting solution, was 7.78 percent higher than the previous month.

Recruitive’s Managing Director, Richard Clarke comments; “Our cloud based software helps organisations bring recruitment in-house, significantly reducing the cost per hire, which is of paramount importance when faced with the probability of budget cuts.  As a G-Cloud 7 approved supplier, we are pleased to be in a position to help public sector companies manage their recruitment costs as effectively as possible.”

Richard continues; “Over the past 12 months we have seen the number of vacancies posted to jobs boards, Universal Job Match and Public Sector Careers, increase by a massive 15 percent and 31 percent respectively. However it will be interesting to see what happens to the number of vacancies within the sector next year, especially once the new National Living Wage is introduced in April.”

A survey conducted in November by the professional body for HR and people development (CIPD) found that 21 percent of public sector employers say they plan to cut the size of their workforce as a result of the introduction of the National Living Wage compared to only 13 percent of private sector employers.
