What does ONS report on working from home reveal?

Manchester, England. 23rd May 2022 – Data released today by the Office for National Statistics reveals that over 8 in 10 employees are planning on having a mixed home-office work schedule going forward.

Data released today by the Office for National Statistics reveals that over 8 in 10 employees are planning on having a mixed home-office work schedule going forward.

The report found that the proportion of those planning to work primarily from home rose from 30% in April 2021 to 42% in February 2022, with most citing an improved work life balance, as well as fewer distractions, finding it quicker to get work done and better wellbeing as their main reasons.

Alan Price, CEO at BrightHR, says “Many employers are keen to embrace remote or hybrid working to afford their staff a better work-life balance whilst saving on costly office space expenses. Similarly, employees are reducing their outgoings on commuting and appreciating having employers who support their lifestyles and personal circumstances.

“With more employees than ever before now working from home, it’s important that employers take steps to ensure their workplace is safe and comfortable. This includes carrying out DSE and workplace risk assessments. Remote based workers should be afforded the same opportunities and attention as staff working on-site.

“As such, employers should have clear communication channels in place, so they can engage with their remote workforce as easily as they do with their office-based employees.

“It is worth noting that just 6% of those surveyed said they would want to work at home full time, showing that the hybrid style is by far the most popular amongst employees.”
