Home secretary to speak at Stonewall conference

The Home Secretary, Theresa May, is to give the keynote speech at the UK’s leading event for senior professionals working in diversity. The Stonewall Workplace Conference – which is supported by Barclays – takes place on 20 April at the Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre, London. Stonewall’s Workplace Conference, a key event for diversity and HR leaders, shares cutting-edge good practice and thought leadership on sexual orientation issues with delegates. Now in its eighth year, sessions include the importance of role modelling and what it takes to top the Workplace Equality Index and be named Employer of the Year for gay staff.

Stonewall Deputy Chief Executive Laura Doughty said: ‘The employers who attend the Workplace Conference know that people perform better when they can be themselves. Many of them are members of Stonewall’s Diversity Champions programme, which promotes best practice – but the conference is open to every employer who wants to learn how to get the best out of their people.’ Other speakers this year include the Chair of Sports Wales, Laura McAllister and Stonewall Chief Executive Ben Summerskill. The Conference event will also hear from Beth Brooke, Global Vice Chair (Public Policy) at Stonewall’s Employer of the Year 2012, Ernst & Young.
