A total of 98 organisations in the UK and Ireland have been named in the 2021 global list of Top Employers.
The list compiled by Top Employers Institute includes new entrants Dunnhumby, ABB UK, FedEx Express UK and LTI UK.
Employers who have been long-running features of the UK and Ireland list include DHL, HCL, IG, Rider Levitt Bucknall, RM PLC, Saffery Champness, and Weightmans LLP.
In the context of the Covid-19 pandemic, other notable employers named on the list for 2021 are NHS Professionals, Oakland Care and Pfizer UK.
To be certified for inclusion in the annual list, participating employers are benchmarked via a rigorous analysis of their HR practices. The information from organisations – looking at people practices across key HR themes (Steer, Shape, Attract, Develop, Engage, Unite – is then audited independently to ensure the integrity of the processes and data.
Phil Sproston, Regional Manager (UK and Ireland) at Top Employers Institute, said: “More than ever in 2021, people need good employers. A crisis like the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic has been a stark illustration of the essential role of employers as the glue in people’s lives, providing purpose, structure and rewards. They’re the glue for communities and whole societies.
“A Top Employer needs to demonstrate how they keep putting people first and are pro-active in providing the best working environments possible in the circumstances. In our current context that means ensuring there’s flexibility, understanding and creative thinking behind the provision of support.”
The 2021 Top Employers list (84 in the UK and a further 14 in Ireland) is to be announced as part of a global online Certification Celebration on 28 January. More than 12,000 HR leaders will gather virtually to take part in sessions for sharing best practice and discussion of trends and challenges. Keynote speakers involved include Professor Mariana Mazzucato from University College London (named by GQ as one of the UK’s 50 most influential people in 2020); Dr Thomas Ogilvie, Labour Director, DHL Group; Mechell Chetty, HR Vice President for Unilever Africa; Sergio Ezama, Chief Talent Officer at Pepsico; Rosa Lee, Executive Vice President, Bosch China; and CEO of Top Employers Institute, David Plink.
In the past year, the Top Employers Institute Global Certification Programme certified and recognised more than 1 691 Top Employers in more than 120 countries and regions across five continents. To be eligible for participation, organisations must have at least 250 local or 2 500 international employees, as well as advanced, formalised HR practices.
