An estimated 7.5 million UK workers are expected to be trained in essential AI skills, with some of the largest companies, including Amazon, BT, Google, IBM, Microsoft, and Sage, set to be part of the latest government-industry partnership.

Based on the government’s latest announcement, it has been stated that £2 billion is being allocated specifically for their AI Action Plan, overseen by the Secretary of State for Science, Innovation, and Technology (DSIT). 

This funding will provide further training and resources for individuals to learn how to use AI and create more opportunities for jobs in various sectors.

A report by the British Chamber of Commerce has reported that 62% of organisations in the UK are experiencing skills shortages. It’s estimated that the UK could face a £120 billion loss by 2030, due to the large gap in skills and highly skilled workers. 

David Morel, CEO and Founder of Tiger Recruitment, has reported the highest-paid jobs that currently require training in AI. He’s found these are the top jobs that job seekers who want to work with AI should be applying for, and what the requirements are to be able to apply to one of these roles.

The top seven highest-paid jobs that require training in AI

1.AI Risk Manager

Salary: £75,000 – £100,000

What is the role: This job role includes assessing and identifying any weaknesses in an AI algorithm and models, and problem-solving to mitigate any potential risks. This is an important role that tends to be needed in the finance sector. 

Requirements: Employers often favour a relevant degree (Bachelor’s or Master’s) in computer science, data science, or a related field is often required by employers.

AI training needed: Some of the training in AI includes programming languages like Python, Java, and C++, as well as machine learning frameworks such as TensorFlow and PyTorch.

 

2.AI Project Manager

Salary: £48,000 – £60,000

 

What is the role: A role that is needed across various industries, including finance and business support. This job includes managing and tracking AI or automation projects across business functions to increase their efficiency for businesses to use. It’s an important role that ensures the effective delivery of a project run by AI.

Requirements:  A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in computer science, AI, or a related technical field.

AI training needed: Knowledge in programming languages such as Python, Java, or R.

 

3.HR Data Scientist

Salary: £50,000 – £90,000

What is the role: Taking insights from large datasets, analysing data, and uncovering trends in recruitment to help inform decisions on creating the best hiring strategies and decisions on how to optimise talent acquisition. 

Requirements: The following degree subjects: Computer science, data science, engineering, mathematics, and human resources.

AI training needed: This includes strong programming skills, especially Python and R, and experience with cloud computing platforms like Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud. Tools for AI development, such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, and Scikit-learn, are highly beneficial.

4.Talent Acquisition Manager (AI Tools Specialist)

Salary: £54,000 – £70,000

What is the role: Working with businesses to help find the right hires through managing AI-driven tools for CV screening, talent mapping, and hiring process optimisation.

Requirements: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in computer science, data science, engineering, or a related field.

AI training needed: Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, and Java. Also, having familiarity with AI-powered recruitment tools and platforms for tasks like sourcing, screening, and candidate engagement is a very important requirement.

5.Finance Quantitative Analyst 

Salary: £90,000 – £200,000

What is the role: This role is in the finance sector and includes working with AI to predict market trends, identify investment risks, and develop financial strategies. 

Requirements: A Bachelor’s degree in economics, data analytics, or engineering.

AI training needed: It’s essential to know that programming languages, such as Python and R, are commonly used for data analysis and model development.

6.AI Product Manager

Salary: £60,000 – £120,000

What is the role: The role is based in the business support industry and includes overseeing and deploying AI-driven products to make sure they deliver real value to the consumer. 

Requirements: A Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or data science.

AI training needed: Knowledge of tools like TensorFlow or AWS SageMaker, it’s also beneficial to have an understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of different AI models.

7.AI Consultant

Salary: £60,000 – £110,000

What is the role: The responsibilities of this job role include assessing client needs and goals to be able to advise on the best AI technologies and tools to use for their business. This could involve mainly supporting businesses or finance teams so they have the right tools to use, which also maintains private information.  

Requirements: A Bachelor’s degree in computer science, artificial intelligence, or mathematics.

AI training needed: Experience with cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud and knowledge of programming languages such as Python and R.
