A new survey, The Impact of AI*. reveals that nearly one in five employees (19%)* plan to shift careers in 2025, driven by concerns about AI replacing their current roles.
The survey underscored how job seekers are adapting to the growing influence of AI on their roles. However, the global job market in 2025 is also being shaped by a variety of other factors, including fluctuations in the global economy, trade challenges posed by potential tariffs, flexible working, persistent skill shortages, and a surprising sense of optimism despite these obstacles.
Key trends are shaping the job market in 2025:
  1. Rise of AI-Related Roles – LinkedIn’s “Jobs on the Rise” report for 2025 identifies AI Engineer and AI Consultant as the fastest-growing jobs.
  2. Labour Shortages and Skills Gap – The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) highlights ongoing labour shortages and a significant skills gap, emphasising the need for targeted upskilling programs to equip workers with AI-related competencies.
  3. Shift Towards Skills-Based Hiring- Employers are increasingly prioritising skills over traditional degrees, focusing on candidates who can demonstrate competencies in areas like coding and project management, even without formal qualifications.
  4. Concerns About AI-Induced Bias – More than a quarter (27%) of jobseekers feel that AI* tools may introduce new forms of bias in recruitment processes, potentially disadvantaging certain groups of candidates.
  5. Optimism in Job Market Recovery – Despite challenges, there is renewed optimism for jobseekers in 2025, with companies planning substantial hiring activities and nearly two-thirds of U.S. employers intending to add permanent positions.
CareerWallet remains committed to providing innovative recruitment solutions that address these evolving trends, ensuring both job seekers and employers can navigate the changing landscape effectively.
Craig Bines, CEO of CareerWallet, commented, “The job market in 2025 is being shaped by dynamic forces, including AI adoption, flexible work preferences, and the demand for upskilling. These trends highlight how job seekers are adapting to the future of work. Employers who embrace these changes, invest in skills development, and provide transparency in hiring will position themselves to attract and retain top talent in this competitive environment.”
