Edinburgh’s Job Surge Soars Ahead of Q2’s National Average by 123.6%

Edinburgh’s Job Surge Soars Ahead of Q2’s National Average by 123.6%

Edinburgh’s recent job surge has catapulted the city 123.6% ahead of the UK’s national average in Q2.

Edinburgh saw an overall job rise of 28.4% in Q2 2015, compared to Q1 2015, which was over double that seen across the rest of the UK (12.7%). Despite the fact that growth rates are slowing, the city still soared ahead of the nation between April – June this year, showing consistently high levels of job creation during the last quarter:

– April 2015 – 79% growth compared to April 2014

– May 2015 – 61.2% growth compared to May 2014

– June 2015 – 56.2% growth compared to June 2014

In comparison, the average job growth seen nationwide over the same period was significantly lower:

– April 2015 – 43% growth compared to April 2014

– May 2015 – 29.8% growth compared to May 2014

– June 2015 – 40.3% growth compared to June 2014

However, rates are beginning to plateau in the city and Edinburgh lost its title of ‘UK City with Strongest Job-Growth’ last month, coming second to Liverpool, making it the first time in Q2 that it didn’t hold the leading monthly position. The UK’s top 5 cities with strongest job growth in June 2015, were:

1. Liverpool – 58.5% growth compared to June 2014

2. Edinburgh – 56.2% growth compared to June 2014

3. Birmingham – 51% growth compared to June 2014

4. Manchester – 49.2% growth compared to June 2014

5. London – 37.3% growth compared to June 2014

Lee Biggins, Managing Director at CV-Library explains: “Edinburgh has had a fantastic quarter and it’s great to see such continued growth in the region. Obviously, it can be hard to continuously maintain such strong growth rates month on month, so to see such stable figures between April and June is excellent news for the region and indicates a time of sustained job creation.”
