As Covid-19 is changing the way people work and impacting working environments and arrangements the Access to Work scheme has been extended to those disabled people working from home or in the workplace so they can benefit from extra help. There are three key measures: (1) Disabled people can get grant funding (fast-tracked if they are in the clinically extremely vulnerable group) if they need support to work from home because of Covid-19, which can help pay for special equipment such as a screen reader or video remote interpreting or support worker services. (2) If disabled people are travelling into the office and due to their health condition public transport isn’t a safe option at the moment, they can also apply for financial support with things like taxi fares. (3) If disabled people are anxious about returning to work and need support, they can also get mental health support through Access to Work with a tailored package of support for up to nine months.
