ICO guidance on video conferencing and home working

The ICO’s Director of Assurance has published advice for business owners, employers and managers about how to safely roll out the latest video conferencing technology. The ICO highlight that the COVID-19 crisis means many employees are working from home for the first time and adapting to new ways of doing their jobs. Video conferencing software and apps are valuable ways of doing business, holding staff meetings and keeping in touch with colleagues, but it’s easy to prioritise convenience over security and the ICO can help to combine the efficiency of digital connection with the necessity for privacy protection. Advice is provided on five key issues: 1. Have you checked the privacy and security settings? 2. Are you aware of phishing risks? 3. Have you checked your organisation’s policy? 4. Have you ensured all software is up to date? 5. Are you using the right tool for the job?
