One in five workers don’t know employer’s website

Almost one in five employees don’t know their company’s web address – according to a new poll.

The research, carried out by DealJungle.com, found 18 percent of employees couldn’t name their firm’s URL when quizzed.

More than three quarters (82 percent) of those polled were able to recall the main body of the web address but nearly half (47 percent) were unsure as to whether it ended with a .co.uk or .com. Interestingly more than three quarters of those surveyed (78 percent) were able to recall their company’s office address with nearly all (95 percent) able to remember their desk telephone number. Everybody who was polled was able to recall their email address. Almost all of the employees surveyed (99 percent) were aware that their employer had a website with 98 percent stating that they believed it was essential to the future of their business.

A spokesman from DealJungle.com, which has more than 20,000 members, said he was amazed that such a high proportion of workers didn’t know their company’s website. He said: “Almost every business has a website nowadays with many firms trading solely online, so in our eyes not knowing your company’s web address is astonishing. For many workers their firm’s web address is all around them – on business cards, headed paper, even as part of their email signature, yet it seems many people just go about their daily business oblivious. What’s also particularly ridiculous is that many firms use their web address as their company name so it isn’t particularly difficult to pinpoint exactly what their home page must be. Whilst we might laugh at some workers being unable to name their company’s website there are more serious business implications such as making it more difficult to direct new leads to the correct place when questioned. Luckily I think most workers would struggle to forget which company they worked for and so a quick google should point new leads in the right direction.”
