Five day charity challenge bonds teams

Over 100 of the UK’s leading companies reinvested in their workforce and challenged them to test their skills at the world’s leading corporate talent-building event – The Microsoft UK Challenge 2009.

The annual Microsoft UK Challenge (MCUK)  is the UK leg of the Intelligent World Series, a campaign which sees the competition spread over five continents. Teams have been training hard to prepare for the multi discipline challenge, which takes place in the Cambrian mountains in Wales for months. the teams, who come from all over the UK including Wembley Staduim, Hewlett Packard, Accenture and Airbus raises money for the NSPCC. This year’s target is £400,000 and £3million has been raised to date since the event began.

The series of events aims to inspire, motivate and retain workforce by concentrating on competition, strategy, decision making, performance and fun. Now in its 9th year running, it provides corporate teams from all over the UK a chance to compete in a multi-sport, adrenalin fuelled adventure, with the primary aim of creating high performance teams for business. The Challenge tests physical and strategic ability in a series of highly energised tasks with the teams put under



pressures that mirror those seen in business situations. Strategy is the key skill that dictates success versus failure.

Rory Heron, CEO of Intelligent Sport explained: “At the end of MUKC, the senior execs go through the different modules of the event and work out exactly what happened, how the team could have done better and how they can translate that into the work place. The team members love it and for obvious reasons, their bosses do too.”

A representitive from Microsoft added: “MUKC fosters fantastic personal development. This is my ninth year and over this time I’ve watched the entrants learn to manage time and resources more efficiently under stressful conditions, and witnessed amazing teamwork. Great relationships are built here, not only within companies, but between the different teams too.”
