Report sets out the types and estimated cost of recruitment fraud

Recruitment fraud is when someone lies about their experience, qualifications, employment history or previous integrity to help gain employment. A report by Crowe estimates that the total cost of recruitment fraud to the UK economy could be up to £23.9 billion as it primarily denies genuine candidates the employment that they deserve, denies employers the staff they need to do a good job and allows fraudsters into organisations where they can then undertake wider fraud and theft. The report sets out the variety of strategies that can be used to prevent recruitment fraud and Page 16 sets out examples of recruitment fraud discovered by organisations with the top two being applicants claiming to have qualifications/status they did not possess and fabricating references.
