The Centre for Ageing Better has published a report ‘Becoming an age-friendly employer‘, setting out practical steps for employers to create a more supportive, age-positive culture. The report follows findings from a YouGov poll of more than 1,100 employees aged 50+ which reveals that 46% think their age would disadvantage them in applying for a job and 20% think people see them as less capable due to their age. Employers are urged to adopt five steps to create an age-friendly workplace: 1. Be flexible about flexible working; 2. Hire age-positively; 3. Ensure everyone has the health support they need; 4. Encourage career development at all ages; and, 5. Create an age-positive culture.
