EHRC say discriminatory dress codes for women are ‘simply wrong’ and are looking for test cases

In responding to the Parliamentary Committees’ report that many employers are enforcing discriminatory dress codes for women, the EHRC have stated that “it’s simply wrong” and are looking for test cases.

In response to the Parliamentary Committees’ report, ‘High heels and workplace dress codes’, (see 26 January News Update), which found that many employers are enforcing discriminatory dress codes for women, the EHRC have stated that in a modern business, it’s “simply wrong” that any woman should be made to follow a dress code telling them how to look in a way that would never be asked of men. The EHRC added that they are looking for test cases which will bring this issue to the national attention.
