Cable instructs his officials to investigate if ET fees are a barrier to justice

The Guardian has reported that Vince Cable has ordered his officials to investigate whether tribunal fees are proving to be a barrier to justice.

The Guardian has reported that Vince Cable has ordered his officials to investigate whether tribunal fees are proving to be a barrier to justice. According to the article, the move came after repeated requests for a review of fees, ‘fell on deaf ears’ at the Ministry of Justice. Cable is quoted as saying in a letter to the Secretary of State for Justice that the fair and effective operation of the employment tribunals system is vital to the successful enforcement of employment rights and the Lib Dems supported introducing fees on the basis that a rigorous review would be conducted within a year of their introduction, to determine whether there had been any unwanted consequences, including being deterred from legitimate access to justice. Cable goes on to express his concern that the Government appears to have reneged on the commitment to conduct this review.
