The Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) has published an updated code of practice for CCTV and other types of surveillance cameras used to view or record an individual’s information, providing best practice on how to comply with the Data Protection Act 1998. The code includes guidance on new technological developments, including body worn video. Employers who use CCTV to monitor staff, customers and suppliers, should check that their policies comply with the new code, particularly because the new code emphasises that surveillance cameras are proactive in the sense of identifying people and keeping detailed records of their activities.
