BIS publishes guidance on calculating minimum wage and whistleblowing to prescribed persons

BIS have published updated guidance on calculating the minimum wage, to help employers meet national minimum wage legislation.

BIS have published updated guidance on calculating the minimum wage, to help employers meet national minimum wage legislation. BIS point out that the guidance is issued within the context of the Government strengthening minimum wage enforcement. In future all employers who are found not to meet national minimum wage rules will be publicly named. This guidance provides practical advice and examples to explain: what counts and does not count as pay and working hours for minimum wage purposes, eligibility for the minimum wage, how to calculate the minimum wage and how the Government will enforce the minimum wage.

BIS have also published a list of prescribed people and bodies that workers can report malpractice to other than their employer. The document, Blowing the whistle: list of prescribed people and bodies, points out that if workers decide to blow the whistle to a prescribed person rather than their employer, they must make sure that they have chosen the correct person or body for the issue. The document is a list of the prescribed persons and bodies who workers can make a disclosure to. There is also a brief description about the matters workers can report to each prescribed person.
