Bribery Act further delayed

The Ministry of Justice has confirmed that the implementation of the Bribery Act 2010 will be delayed until three months after the final guidance is published.

The Ministry of Justice has confirmed that the implementation of the Bribery Act 2010 will be delayed. Under the Bribery Act companies face unlimited fines if they cannot show they have installed “adequate procedures” to prevent bribery. The Act, which was due to come into force in April 2011, will now be pushed back until 3 months after the final version of the guidance has been published.

The guidance was expected to have been published in January 2011, but remains under review “to make it practical and comprehensive for business”. The delay comes after the Government announced last year that it was postponing the implementation of the Act until April 2011 in order to give companies a chance to put proper procedures in place.
