Permanent hires hit nine-month low

The Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) has today released its latest Report on Jobs, revealing that while job vacancies have grown at their fastest rate since November 2017, the number of placements in permanent positions have hit a nine-month low.

Six hundred thousand manufacturing jobs lost in last decade

Next Government must invest in industry or communities will pay the price. The UK has lost almost 600,000 manufacturing jobs in the past decade, a new investigation by GMB has shown. Figures show that 599,100 jobs in the sector disappeared between 2007 and 2017, a massive fall of 17%.

2018 jobs market mirrors 2017 trajectory

April jobs figures remained largely flat, month-on-month, with a mere 2 percent decrease. As was the case in 2017, April saw markets shift course after the first quarter (Q1) was marked by decline. “Paired with the hiring energy we’re seeing on the ground, if 2017 is anything to go on, we’re in for slow but steady growth in the months ahead".

Permanent staff appointments pace weakens

The pace of expansion was the softest seen in 2018 so far. In contrast, growth of temp billings picked up from March’s 13-month low. Candidate availability for both permanent and temporary roles declined further at the start of the second quarter. Furthermore, the rates of reduction quickened to three- and five-month records, respectively.

What would you be willing to lie about to secure a job? 

A staggering 92.5 percent of Brits have got away with lying on their CV, with nearly three quarters (71.6 percent) stating that they got the job as a result. That’s according to latest research. The research surveyed 1,000 UK workers and asked them if they’ve ever considered lying on their CV, or to a potential employer, in order to secure a job.

Online job applications should be “more accessible and inclusive”

Nearly seven out of ten jobseekers (69 percent) think that employers and recruiters should make online job applications more accessible for disabled people, according to the results of a new survey. The survey of 112 jobseekers was run in collaboration between web accessibility company Recite Me and online diversity and inclusion recruitment platform VERCIDA in March 2018.

Digital sets marketing agency jobs market soaring

Marketing roles within agencies increased 35 percent year-on-year to March 2018, according to the Association of Professional Staffing Companies (APSCo), as organisations increasingly look towards outsourcing. The number of marketing vacancies as a percentage of all available roles, increased by 1.68 percent year-on-year.
