Bad hire evident almost immediately

According to the study of almost 5,000 managers in 13 countries around the world, 39 percent typically realise within a fortnight that a new hire is not meeting expectations. One in nine workers in “insecure jobs” says TUC

At least 3.8 million people are in insecure work, such as agency work, zero-hour contracts and low-paid self-employment. New analysis published by the TUC finds that 3,820,000 UK workers are in insecure forms of employment. This is 11.9 percent of the workforce, or 1 in 9 workers.

More than half of all UK employees are unhappy in the workplace

Half of all UK employees can recall something happening in the past month that has made them feel less positive about their working lives. Examples include pay cuts, bullying, harassment, workplace stress, and even sexual assault. Research published today by employee benefits provider Personal Group, shows that 56% of all people surveyed are not happy in the workplace.

Demand for accountants up 27 percent outside London

Career opportunities for qualified accounting professionals outside of London increased by 27 percent between February 2016 and February 2018, as businesses increasingly look to relocate or expand outside of the capital. This data is reflected by separate research from the Association of Professional Staffing Companies (APSCo) which found that vacancies for finance managers in the south of England increased by 19 percent year-on-year at the end of 2017.

Growth in self-employment driven by highly -skilled freelancers not gig economy

Businesses pay out £3.8bn in redundancy payments this year

Businesses paid out an estimated £3.8 billion to employees who were laid off in 2016/17*, says Hugh James, the Top 100 law firm. Hugh James says that although the value of redundancy payments has declined over the last year, from £4 billion in 2015/16, businesses are still making the decision to pay out high redundancy costs in the short term in order to increase profitability over the long term.
