Luton airport workers on zero hours “fight for dignity” says union

Workers responsible for helping disabled passengers at Luton Airport are in a battle with their employer Clece Care services which stands accused of exploiting its own workforce while providing services to people with restricted mobility. The workers are due to take 48 hour strike action between Tuesday 17 July 5.00 am to Thursday 19 July 4.59 am.

‘Sign or resign’ – Sainsbury’s contracts row

Supermarket giant Sainsbury’s has hit the headlines this week over its plans to overhaul the employment contracts of a number of its employees. The supermarket has announced its plan to increase the hourly rate of 130,000 shop floor staff from £8.00 per hour to £9.20 per hour (£9.80 in London).

One in nine workers in “insecure jobs” says TUC

At least 3.8 million people are in insecure work, such as agency work, zero-hour contracts and low-paid self-employment. New analysis published by the TUC finds that 3,820,000 UK workers are in insecure forms of employment. This is 11.9 percent of the workforce, or 1 in 9 workers.

More than half of all UK employees are unhappy in the workplace

Half of all UK employees can recall something happening in the past month that has made them feel less positive about their working lives. Examples include pay cuts, bullying, harassment, workplace stress, and even sexual assault. Research published today by employee benefits provider Personal Group, shows that 56% of all people surveyed are not happy in the workplace.
