Half of Brits wish they could take up their favourite hobby as a full time job, according to new research. A survey found that 50 percent of workers would like to turn their hobby into a career, with 23 percent more passionate about their hobby than their current profession.

As the centre of excellence for wine education, Plumpton College is introducing a brand new course designed for anyone who wants a career in vinegrowing. The Advanced Technical Certificate in Viticulture is the equivalent of an A Level, aimed at 16-18 year olds but is open to all ages.

The Institute of Student Employers (ISE) annual Development Survey found that graduates who have undertaken an internship are more likely to have honed the skills businesses need. The report, launched at the ISE Student Development Conference, found that 63 percent of employers believed graduates who had undertaken work experience had the required soft skills, yet less than half (48 percent) thought this of graduates in general.

A recent survey has shown that prospective graduates are worried about Brexit. Of the 151 graduates surveyed, over a third (38 percent) were concerned that Brexit will negatively affect their employment prospects. Only 15 percent believe that the UK exiting the EU would have a positive effect on their careers, with the remainder being undecided or choosing ‘no impact’.

Workers aged 55 and over were happier than any other age group, scoring 6.91. Meanwhile, men rated their happiness at work higher than women.The data from a happiness survey revealed that the marketing, communications and advertising industry currently boasts the happiest employees – with staff in this sector rating their happiness as a glowing 8.13 out of 10.

The combination of Britain’s jobs boom and Brexit uncertainty may have prompted millions of jobseekers to look for full-time, rather than part-time or temporary work. Jobseekers searching for full-time roles rose by a third while searches for part-time jobs rose by just 8 percent.
