SSP for those notified via ‘track and trace’ to self-isolate at home

The Statutory Sick Pay (General) (Coronavirus Amendment) (No 4) Regulations 2020 have come into force making amendments to the Statutory Sick Pay (General) Regulations 1982.

The Statutory Sick Pay (General) (Coronavirus Amendment) (No 4) Regulations 2020 have come into force making amendments to the Statutory Sick Pay (General) Regulations 1982 to provide that an individual who has been told, by a relevant notification, i.e. via ‘track and trace’, that they have had contact with an individual who has coronavirus, and that they should stay at home and self-isolate as a result, is deemed to be incapable of work, and therefore entitled to Statutory Sick Pay. This forms part of the UK Government’s Contact Tracing strategy in England, Scotland, and Wales. The current regulations do not include individuals who are advised to stay at home and self-isolate in such circumstances. The Regulations 1982 have therefore been amended to specifically include cases of those being notified to self-isolate via track and trace to provide financial support to such employees who are unable to work because of self-isolation.
