Business Minister Margot James has written to the chief executives of all FTSE 350 companies urging them to improve diversity and inclusion in the workplace. In her letter, she called on the UK’s largest companies to take up key recommendations from the McGregor-Smith Review into black and ethnic minority progression in the workplace, including: (i) publishing a breakdown of their workforce by race and pay; (ii) setting aspirational targets; and (iii) nominating a board member to deliver on those targets. An article in The Telegraph indicates that the letter hints that if businesses do not adopt the recommendations, then legislation could be introduced if improvements do not come voluntarily.
