The BBC report that Leeds United’s former welfare officer has been awarded more than £132,000 after winning her unfair dismissal and sex discrimination claims. In April, Ms Ward won her case for unfair dismissal and sex discrimination against Leeds United Football Club. Ms Ward claimed she was sacked because she was former head coach Neil Redfearn’s partner. The Club claimed she was sacked for exceeding her annual leave entitlement. But the tribunal heard evidence that the Chairman decided to sack her because she and Mr Redfearn came as “a pair”. The tribunal agreed with Ms Ward’s legal team that the club had taken a “sexist” view and ruled the reasons for her dismissal were “a sham”. In June, the tribunal awarded Ms Ward £127,229 for sex discrimination and a £5,525 in respect of unfair dismissal. The club was also ordered to pay her costs.
