This October, Breast Cancer Now is encouraging workplaces across the UK to dig out their pink glad rags for their flagship fundraiser, wear it pink, on Friday 20 October. Wear it pink, the UK’s biggest pink fundraiser which takes place during October’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month, calls on employees to ditch their everyday uniforms and workwear and pull on some pink to raise money for Breast Cancer Now’s life-saving breast cancer research.

The fundraising event, back for its 16th year, encourages workers to wear pink on Friday 20 October and make a donation to Breast Cancer Now to help the charity achieve its aim that by 2050 nobody will die from breast cancer. The charity’s flagship fundraising day started in 2002 and has so far raised over £30 million for vital breast cancer research.

Brenda George, a PA in finance, said: “I first started getting involved with wear it pink at work four years ago after my sister passed away from breast cancer aged 47. It was important to show my support not just for my sister, but to everyone who has or knows someone who is impacted by this disease. I also wanted to show that we are united together in finding a cure by raising funds to support the research it takes.

“I started off with just doing a raffle in the office with prizes including a weekend away and theme park tickets. The following year I decided to go all out and dress in pink and make everyone in the office come to work in pink too or they would have to pay a fine. We had a bake sale, collected donations and played a few games to raise money and everyone really enjoyed it!

“I’ve achieved so much through my fundraising for Breast Cancer Now throughout the years and I’m so proud to be wearing it pink again this year.” Lottie Barnden, Senior Fundraising Products Manager at Breast Cancer Now, said:

“Wear it pink is a brilliant opportunity for offices across the UK to fundraise together. There are so many ways to get involved, from holding a pink cake sale in the staff kitchen, to having a pink workwear day. Whatever you do, you’ll be raising money for Breast Cancer Now’s life-saving research.

“Right now breast cancer is at a tipping point. Every year in the UK around 50,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer, and sadly around 11,500 women and 80 men will lose their lives to the disease. This is why we are urging everyone to get involved in wear it pink this Friday 20 October to raise funds for vital breast cancer research, to stop breast cancer taking the lives of those we love.

“We know how much fun offices have when they take part in wear it pink and we look forward to hearing all about the ways employees across the UK are planning to fundraise and take part this year.” To take part in wear it pink this October, please visit wearitpink.org for further details, fundraising ideas for work and how to register for your free fundraising pack.
