Enabling L&D professionals to explore, understand and act upon the latest progress in the sphere of L&D, the World of Learning Conference & Exhibition takes place at Birmingham’s NEC on 16 & 17 October.

Combining a world-class conference with an exhibition showcasing 100 L&D providers, World of Learning is a key event every year for the L&D community. A hive of knowledge exchange, hands on experience of latest technologies and practices, and the chance to network with peers, the event is unmissable for senior L&D professionals.

The conference programme is especially impactful this year. Designed by industry expert Martin Couzins, L&D leaders from companies managing workforce learning and performance on large and multi-national scales will cover topics at the heart of L&D.

Keynote speaker Rafal Szaniawski, formerly of Deloitte Switzerland will open the conference by examining: Curators vs enforcers: what’s the future role of L&D? Speakers from AstraZeneca, E.ON UK, Dixons Carphone and River Island will also share insights and tips from the frontline.

A comprehensive programme of more than 40 free seminars from L&D specialists is available to visitors of the exhibition. Topics from how best to leverage tools like Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), video and online programmes will be included in a schedule which also looks at transformational change, leadership development and mental wellbeing.

Kate Cooper, Head of Research, Policy & Standards at The Institute of Leadership & Management will deliver an interactive session entitled: The first step to leadership learning. Attendees can benchmark themselves against the Institute’s standard and receive a personalised report containing useful leadership learning.

Head of Learning at award-winning OnTrack International, Matt McIntyre will present: Creating profound and positive change through learner-centric learning. He’ll help his audience improve learner engagement, cut attrition and increase performance.

The arguments for embracing digital learning systems to foster a happier and more engaged workforce will be tackled by Ben Myhill, UK Regional Manager at Bridge by Instructure and Luke Merrick, Head of Learning at Bolt Learning, will deliver a hands-on seminar exploring how the power of narrative can capture and hold the attention of workers.

Richard McCann is the founder of the iCan Academy, an award-winning International Speaker, presentation skills coach and Sunday Times No.1 Best-Selling Author. He’ll shock, entertain, motivate and inspire audiences with his personal story, sharing skills to overcome life’s many challenges.

The popular Fringe Seminars will cover topics from how to set up a new L&D department on a very tight budget to, controversially, if it’s ‘time to ditch 70/20/10 and other L&D myths’.

Learning Design Live is a conference co-located with the exhibition and is specifically for anyone involved in learning technology design. Visitors can gather advice and share ideas with other design specialists. Sam Yates, Senior Learning Designer at Sponge UK, will present on Achieving real behaviour change through eLearning while Rosie Scott, Senior Learning Designer at Learning Pool will present Beyond the module: applying learning design to blended programmes.

Virtual Reality (VR) continues to grow its role in the learning environment. The VR Suite at the exhibition will allow visitors to discover how VR can be successfully incorporated into their training programmes.

A range of Inspiration Zones will give visitors the opportunity to explore several topics affecting the L&D workplace today. Brand new for this year is the Agility Zone where visitors can learn more about behavioural agility and how to support people through rapid change, helping them to respond positively in agile working environments.

Liggy Webb, founder of The Learning Architect who will facilitate the zone, comments: “World of Learning is always an absolute highlight of our year. My team and I are really looking forward to providing practical advice to visitors on ways to future proof their workforce.”

“By promoting healthy working practices and successfully managing people through relentless change, they will be able to help individuals tap into their dynamic capability by sustaining a realistic pace and avoiding burnout.”

At the Apprenticeship Zone, visitors can find out everything they need to know about the Apprenticeship Levy and get specialist advice on how to construct and deliver a successful apprenticeship programme.

The Technology Test Drive gives visitors the chance to get hands on with some of the latest tech tools and systems helping to deliver positive learning outcomes, and visitors can also participate in the Team Building Zone and Mental Wellbeing Zone. Bite-sized workshops in the Experiential Zone will help visitors change, learn and succeed in a VUCA world.

Tracy Shah summarises: “The demands on and expectations of L&D functions continue to increase and evolve. By bringing together leading practitioners who can demonstrate and educate on what works and does not work in the modern learning environment, World of Learning can support today’s L&D professionals to deliver the outcomes their organisations are seeking, now and into the future.”
