Prior to joining Standard Life, Conway was Vice President of Resourcing and Development in Human Resources at Royal Dutch Shell, based in The Hague.  He joined Shell in 2001 prior to which he had been with BP since 1976. 

Conway has worked in various international locations, including in Japan where he was the General Manager of HR and in the USA where he was Director of HR for BP Alaska.  He worked on two occasions in Aberdeen and in 1999 become Global HR VP for BP’s Gas and Power Business in London. 

Conway joined Shell as HR Director in Aberdeen in 2001, which allowed him to return home to Scotland.  He became Regional HR VP for Europe in 2003 and in 2005 took over responsibility for Global Talent Management based in Shell headquarters in The Hague, Netherlands.   

In his new capacity, Conway will sit on the Standard Life Group Executive Committee and report directly to Group Chief Executive, Sandy Crombie.    

Conway’s appointment will become effective as of 3 November 2008.
